How It Works

Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable compound that acts as a collagen stimulator. Once injected, it triggers fibroblasts within the skin to produce new collagen fibres - gradually restoring structure, firmness, and smoothness over several months.

 

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

To minimise bruising and optimise results:

 

• Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and herbal supplements (e.g., ginkgo, garlic) for 48 hours prior

• Stay hydrated and keep your skin moisturised

• Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup or skincare products

 

If you’re prone to bruising, arnica tablets may be taken in the days before your appointment.

• Consultation & Assessment: Customised treatment plan based on your goals

• Preparation: Skin is cleansed; topical numbing and/or local anaesthetic may be used for comfort

• Treatment: Sculptra is injected strategically to stimulate collagen where needed most

• Aftercare advice provided

• Follow-up: You’ll receive a next-day check-in, and a review 4 weeks after your final treatment, including photographic comparison of your progress

 

 

Discomfort Levels

Mild to moderate stinging or pressure during injection; generally well tolerated. Dilution includes  lidocaine for a numbing effect.
Other comfort measures include numbing cream, vibration tool, stress ball, and music.

 

Downtime & Aftercare

 

• Mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness for 1–3 days (may last longer in some areas)

• Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, and heat exposure for 24 hours

• Refrain from applying makeup for 12 hours

• Avoid anti-inflammatory medications for 1 week

• Massage the treated area gently for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days (as directed)
